“When hotel chain Scandic were set to launch their latest flagship hotel, Grand Central, they turned to archetectual firm Koncept Stockholm for the interior and graphical output. Koncept Stockholm then chose us as the most suitable designers for the task. The Grand Central is one of the largest boutique hotels in the Stockholm area.
With an international and cosmopolitan feel, the hotel merges the big city life, with its art, design, theatre, film and music scenes. With the building standing firmly in the old publishing and printing district and is one of few that survived the remodernisation of the area. Our objective was to make it look like it’s been there forever, and also to take advantage of the buildings’ heritage. The end result is a ecclectic mixture of styles, all boiled down to create a unique and urban feel of downtown Stockholm.
Our work includes: the SGC emblem and “Bar Acoustic” logotype, stationary package, design concept for the restaurant and bar menus, invitations for the opening party. Interior decoration, such as; screen-printed lyrical plaques and wall paintings on the same theme, corridor carpets and rugs that form a pattern of Stockholm street wells and urban elements from the city. Graphic bedside tables on which you can enjoy a good game of tic-tac-toe. The signage system in various materials and treatments inspired by old street signs. And room numbers are inspired by the classic printing process “letter press” which link to history of the area.”
