“Juniper and Ivy, located in San Diego’s up and coming little Italy district, delivers a new spin on American cuisine thanks to celebrity chef Richard Blais. Housed in a converted warehouse, the environment is just as much a part of the experience as the cuisine. BoyBurnsBarn was asked to develop a brand language that is an updated perspective on the industrial aesthetic.
“For the logo the initials J and I were abstracted down into rounded shapes inspired by stencil typefaces that are more typical in a warehouse environment. This nod towards an industrial warehouse scene is found in the design with the repetition of information as if coming off an assembly line to the corner brackets around information. Its all balanced with very clean typography set in a simple stark layout.
“A keen eye will find small elements of wit int he branding as well. The dessert menu is set upside down on the food menu. This helps isolate it from the rest of the menu but a hungry patron can still use it to “plan ahead”. Instead of traditional bathroom signage we opted for something a bit cheekier. This sort of engagement keeps people on their toes and hopefully leaves them saying, “Oh my goodness did you see this…?!”
“With such beautiful space and amazing talent behind the operation we couldn’t be more proud of the final results and the way our branding design matches up with the rest of the Juniper and Ivy experience.”
