“It’s early 2015, and Chef Andrew McConnell has yet another project on the boil. He wants to open a casual wine bar next to his flagship venue, Cutler & Co, envisioning an informal, wine-focused space that would complement Cutler’s more elevated offer.
“The identity would need to respond to the location’s urban context and elegantly communicate a different intention to that of its neighbouring sibling venue. Starting with the name (taken from Marion Lane at the rear of the site) our identity then took cues from local street signs and the history of the location on Gertrude street.
“Working closely with architect, Iva Foschia (IF Architecture) to understand how the entire space would come together, we collaboratively refined the vision for the bar and how patrons would interact with it. The result is now a regular haunt for locals; a place that feels comfortably woven into the neighbourhood, like it’s always been there.”
